Check the fit before you move the furniture
Furniture planning works best when the objects in the model have the same dimensions as the objects in your home. Rumblespace lets you place configurable furniture in a measured room, inspect overlaps, and explore the arrangement from above or at eye level. Use it to compare a purchase, reorganize existing pieces, or test a layout before lifting anything heavy.
Create an accurate room envelope
Measure inside the finished walls and enter the room’s width, length, and ceiling height. Add doors and windows, then adjust their positions along the appropriate walls. Include alcoves and angled sections when they affect the available furniture footprint. You can edit a room’s corners or trace a floor-plan image to build a more faithful outline. When rooms share a wall, connected openings allow the model to represent the route between them.
The room boundary is only part of the available space. A radiator, deep window sill, column, or built-in cupboard can restrict placement even when the nominal floor area looks generous. Represent large obstructions with appropriately sized templates where useful, and leave tolerance for smaller details. Measurements from advertisements or sales brochures should be checked against the actual room before a tight fit becomes the basis of a purchase.
Use overall assembled furniture dimensions
For a sofa, include the arms and any part of the back that projects beyond the base. For a bed, use the frame rather than only the mattress. For storage, include the full case and permanent projections such as handles if they affect a nearby walkway. The model uses the width, depth, and height you supply. Choosing conservative dimensions is usually more useful than entering the smallest measurement printed on a product listing.
The product-link importer appears in the Furniture tab. Paste a public HTTPS listing and ask it to read the dimensions, then review the result. It can use structured data and clearly labeled measurements, but not every retailer makes those details available. Pasted specifications and manual fields remain available when automatic extraction fails. The importer adds a standard furniture representation at the reviewed dimensions; it does not turn product photography into an exact three-dimensional mesh.
Understand footprint, overlap, and use space
The footprint is the area a piece occupies while stationary. An overlap warning identifies furniture footprints that intersect at overlapping heights, or pieces that extend outside a room. Height above the floor can help represent wall-mounted items or raised objects. These checks are useful for catching obvious placement mistakes, but detailed furniture shapes may contain empty areas that a simple bounding footprint cannot represent. Review the objects visually when a warning needs interpretation.
Use space is the additional area you want to reserve in front of a piece. A desk chair needs room to move back; a cabinet needs space for access; a dining chair changes position when someone sits down. Adjust the guide to the actual use case instead of assuming one clearance suits everything. A highlighted zone is a planning reference, not a guarantee of comfort or compliance, and several activities may need to be considered at the same time.
Arrange furniture while keeping the preview visible
Drag furniture directly in Plan or Dollhouse view. Plan view makes alignment and distances easier to judge, while Dollhouse view helps you see relationships in height and depth. Click a piece to expose its dimensions and rotation controls. On larger screens, the selected-piece controls stay beside the preview, so you can change a measurement and see the result immediately. Click empty space or close the selection controls to return to the general room tools.
Use Hide furniture to inspect the empty room temporarily. Use Clear furniture if you want to remove the selected room’s current arrangement, and Undo if you change your mind. Automatic furnishing provides a starting layout for a living room, bedroom, or home office using templates that fit the available outline. It replaces the selected room’s existing pieces, so review the result before continuing. You can reposition, resize, rename, or remove every suggested object.
Check overhead constraints and everyday access
Tall wardrobes and shelving need more than a matching floor footprint. Set the ceiling height and use the attic controls when a roof slopes across the room. The planner checks a piece’s full height against the ceiling over its footprint and can flag furniture that is too tall at its current position. Moving the object toward the ridge may solve the conflict, while simply rotating it may create a different problem at another corner.
Walk through the layout to review access to the entrance, storage, and seating. The first-person camera respects room boundaries and furniture collisions, which makes some blocked routes easier to notice. This is not a simulation of carrying furniture into the building. A sofa that fits in the final room may still fail to pass through a staircase or hallway turn. Check the delivery route separately, including packaging, lift openings, removable legs, and the handling instructions supplied by the seller.
Compare alternatives and keep your measurements
Save the current arrangement as layout A, then edit layout B to test an alternative. Change only the variables you want to compare: perhaps sofa size, desk position, or the orientation of a dining table. Use the same viewpoint and camera field of view for a fair visual comparison. Each layout has a separate editing history during the comparison session. Download the versions you want to retain before reloading or navigating to another tool.
Saved projects contain editable geometry and dimensions, so you can return to a decision later instead of rebuilding the room from a screenshot. The project stays in the current browser tab when storage is available, and Save project creates a portable JSON copy. For bed-specific comparisons, use the bedroom planner.
